Having scored only five goals in the league and two in the Champions League, you might not think that letting Robbie Keane return to Tottenham would be a particularly bad decision for Liverpool.
But the Anfield management and board should ask themselves this: What happens if Fernando Torres gets injured again? Would Dirk Kuyt or David N’gog really be good enough up front? And if Kuyt was chosen to play in Torres’ position, who would fill his place on the right-hand side of midfield? Read the rest of this entry »

Andrei Arshavin for Arsenal! The saviour has arrived and his first slogan has caught on. “Trust me!” the influential playmaker remarked in his first interview as an Arsenal player. Two simple words - but how much can the Arsenal faithful believe them?
At the start of this season, Arsene Wenger made one simple ‘in’ transaction of Samir Nasri despite losing Aleksandr Hleb, Mathieu Flamini and Gilberto from the Arsenal midfield. His belief in his youngsters is so strong that Denilson, Abou Diaby and Alex Song have played most of the games for the Gunners so far. Read the rest of this entry »

Man City are homers; they’re one of those teams that look great on their own patch but just can’t do it away.
They were playing against 10 men at Stoke for almost an hour last week and still ended up losing, but at Eastlands they’re a match for anybody. Look at Robinho - he’s scored nine goals for City at home, but only two in away games. It’s hard to explain.
However, Shay Given is a great signing and should go straight into the team for this game. I feel sorry for Joe Hart, but he can’t complain too much because he’s being replaced by a top-drawer keeper. Hart is still young and there aren’t many goalkeepers of his age playing for a big club like Man City. Read the rest of this entry »

The scribblings on my notepad mean little, really. They are mainly gobbledygook. My Fantasy Football match fitness is rusty like an abandoned tractor, and yet I keep turning to my biro-words in the hope that, like a Magic Eye, my tips will cross over one another and leap out at me. I’ve had no such luck - yet.
That introduction is, of course, melodramatic, like a hormonal teenager. In reality, the conundrum staring back at me is nothing to despair so greatly over, yet I take my predictions awfully seriously. I have an aversion to losing, it sours my blood and turns my face a shade green - with sickness and jealousy of winners.
But wait, a mirage is teasing me. Three figures, my three tips for the weekend, are hazy in my mind but their identities are emerging clearer the more I strain my grey matter. Yes, I can see one of them now, the spotlight is upon him. He’s a diminutive fellow, boasting Billy Whizz pace aplenty. It’s Ashley ‘everybody had him before his red card’ Young. Vidic produced a string of impressive defensive displays but also contributed at the other end, netting against both Chelsea and West Brom.
The award is Vidic’s first monthly player award, while his manager takes the honour for the 22nd time.

By his own high standards, Henry struggled when he arrived in Spain for £16.5 million from Arsenal in 2007.
While many speculated that he was simply past his best, the relative lack of form should have been attributed to other factors: adapting to a new country, personal problems arising from a messy divorce and custody issues over his infant daughter. Read the rest of this entry »
