Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has heaped praise on new club captain Kevin Davies, who has taken the armband following Kevin Nolan’s move to Newcastle United.

The combative striker stepped up to the mark last weekend by scoring twice in the 3-2 home win over Tottenham Hotspur, with Megson hugely impressed by his new skipper.

Michael Turner has committed his long-term future to Hull City by penning a new deal with the Tigers that will keep him at the KC Stadium until the end of the 2012-13 campaign.

The contract takes the place of Turner’s previous agreement which was set to expire in June 2011.

Man City are homers; they’re one of those teams that look great on their own patch but just can’t do it away.

They were playing against 10 men at Stoke for almost an hour last week and still ended up losing, but at Eastlands they’re a match for anybody. Look at Robinho - he’s scored nine goals for City at home, but only two in away games. It’s hard to explain.

However, Shay Given is a great signing and should go straight into the team for this game. I feel sorry for Joe Hart, but he can’t complain too much because he’s being replaced by a top-drawer keeper. The scribblings on my notepad mean little, really. They are mainly gobbledygook. My Fantasy Football match fitness is rusty like an abandoned tractor, and yet I keep turning to my biro-words in the hope that, like a Magic Eye, my tips will cross over one another and leap out at me. I’ve had no such luck - yet.

That introduction is, of course, melodramatic, like a hormonal teenager. In reality, the conundrum staring back at me is nothing to despair so greatly over, yet I take my predictions awfully seriously. I have an aversion to losing, it sours my blood and turns my face a shade green - with sickness and jealousy of winners.

But wait, a mirage is teasing me. Three figures, my three tips for the weekend, are hazy in my mind but their identities are emerging clearer the more I strain my grey matter. United picked up maximum points from their five matches in the Premier League in January without conceding a single goal, beating Chelsea, Wigan, Bolton, West Brom and Everton.

Vidic produced a string of impressive defensive displays but also contributed at the other end, netting against both Chelsea and West Brom.

The 20-year-old defender was questioned by police after the alleged assault of a man, thought to be 18, in Hale, Greater Manchester, at around 12.30am on Christmas Eve.
Richards was arrested by appointment at a police station on Wednesday has been bailed until April.

In the space of two weeks he has seen British record signing Robinho being arrested and questioned over an alleged sexual assault, another player being blackmailed over a missing iPod and now it has emerged Micah Richards has also been quizzed by police over an alleged nightclub assault.
Richards, 20, attended a police station by appointment on Wednesday over the alleged assault of a man, believed to be 18, outside a nightclub in Hale, Cheshire, on Christmas Eve.
